Women empowerment is a process by which women gain power and control over their own lives and acquire the ability to make strategic choices. It includes accepting the view points of women, seeking them or raising the status of women through education, literacy and awareness etc. Women’s empowerment has five components:

  • Women’s sense of self-worth
  • Women’s right to have and to determine choices
  • Women’s right to have access to opportunities and resources
  • Women’s right to have power to control their own lives, both within and outside the home
  • Women’s ability to influence the direction of social change to create a more just social and economic order, nationally and internationally.

Women empowerment is a critical aspect to achieving gender equality, where both men and women have equal power and opportunities for education, healthcare, economic participation and personal development. Below are the six reasons which shows that women’s empowerment is necessary.

In this way, upbringing of children can be done in a good way which leads to healthier families in societies.
  3. Reduces Poverty For The Family: Women’s empowerment is a part to encourage women to feel strong by telling them that they can do everything that they want to do. Women can work outside their home, have opportunity to make up their mind. Women are not depended on men. They can earn money to support their family by working through their abilities. As some women are not confident to work in a hard condition or a high position because they still determine that it’s not women’s job.
  4. Strengthen The Economies: As per survey, it’s found out that if women get proper education then country’s economic  growth can be increased by 3% which highly impacts our economy. These day women are achieving high-level job just as man do. Some women are promoted to become a president, leader, chief of commune and other high-level positions. And there are many women now are participating in society, politically, education and economically.
  5. Right Thing To Do: Investing in girls is one of the smartest  thing  we can do to promote a healthier, more prosperous world. More importantly, it’s the right thing to do. Every girl has the right to be in charge of her future and her fate, and we have the collective obligation to protect her rights and promote her wellbeing.
  6. Freedom From Violence & Abuse: Empowerment helps to reduce in domestic violence due people promote and give the value to women. Women are not abused by any factors such as sexual abuse, emotion abuse and physical abuse. People can also make contribution in this by stopping traditional cultural activities like dowry violence, female genital mutilation. Violence is called crime in law so everyone should be aware about it.

Approaches To Create Women Empowerment

  • Raising Consciousness: Basic step for creating women empowerment is raising the consciousness about education. It not only includes knowledge about their personal struggle but how its related to political and economic issues. Awareness of their problems will initiate self-mobilization which creates empowerment. In short, it involves awareness about their rights and how to use it in society.
  • Building Relationships: It plays important role as its focus on building relationships as a medium for creating women empowerment. When it comes to forming and maintaining relationships, there needs to be a balance of both collaboration and conflict between the two parties. Conflict commonly arises in situations where community members attempt to build relationships with external power figures like government representatives. So, Govt representatives have to reserve some posts for women so that it can build strong relationship and identity in front of society.
